The Flying Scotsman

While reading about something totally unrelated, I came across information about a film starring two of my favourite actors, Jonny Lee Miller and Brian Cox, and one of the most pleasant celebrities I have ever met, Billy Boyd, about a guy whose book I have recently been reading, Graeme Obree. I was interested immediately but when I saw that the movie has actually had pretty decent reviews, I had to see it.

For those not in the know, Graeme Obree decided to build his own bike and take on the heavy hitters of the cycling world. I’ll not give too much away but I highly recommend you see this film. It’s an amazing enough story made all the more amazing by being true. What he overcame and the way in which he did it is as funny as it is inspiring and touching.

Check it out here or order the book.

Nutters on bikes

You’ve probably already seen his video of Danny MacAskill reliving his childhood playtime in full size…

But have you seen this one of Martyn Ashton? He does something similar but instead of using a strong framed trials bike, he uses a £10,000 road bike (in fact it’s the same one used by Team Sky). This guy is truly mental…

bikes vs cars

After The Invisible Bicycle Helmet short documentary the new film project from Swedish film director Fredrik Gertten is once again about the awesomeness of bicycles: bikes in a sadly-but-true-booming-car-sales-world or Bikes vs Cars will be released in 2014. Until then we’ll have to live with a 3 minutes and 29 seconds trailer.

Bikes vs. Cars, a new film project from BANANAS! * and Big Boys Gone Bananas! * director Fredrik Gertten. Climate change and the daily frustration of being locked up in a car frustrate people more than ever. People in cities around the world take on the bicycle as a Do It Yourself tool for change. But still: Car sales are booming. 1 billion cars today. 2 billion in 2020.

Join the movement and make the documentary come to life: pledge to the project on kickstarter.
